Team utilisation
The capacity view shows, week by week, how loaded each person on the team is. It helps directors see where space exists to take on new work and where people are over-committed.
Reading the capacity view
Each row in the capacity grid is a team member. Each column is a week. The bar in each cell shows their utilisation for that week as a percentage of their available hours.
- Under 70%
- Capacity available. Safe to assign more work or take on a new project.
- 70–90%
- Comfortably loaded. Normal working week with a reasonable buffer.
- Over 90%
- At or near full capacity. Adding work risks quality or timeline slippage.
- Over 100%
- Overloaded. Intervention needed — reassign tasks or adjust deadlines.
How utilisation is calculated
Utilisation is based on estimated hours assigned to tasks with deadlines falling in that week, divided by each person's weekly available hours (set in their profile). Time off bookings reduce available hours for the affected weeks.
Using capacity to plan
When assessing whether to take on a new project or move a deadline, open the capacity view to see which engineers have space in the relevant weeks. Hover over any cell to see a breakdown of which projects are contributing to that person's load.
