Checklists & sub-tasks

Break larger tasks into trackable steps using checklists, or create true sub-tasks that can be assigned and tracked independently.

Checklists

A checklist is a list of ordered steps within a task. Progress (e.g. 2/5) is shown as a bar in the task list view — so you can see completion at a glance without opening the task.

  1. 1Open the task detail.
  2. 2Click Add checklist.
  3. 3Type each item and press Enter to add the next.
  4. 4Check items off as you complete them — the progress bar updates immediately.

Sub-tasks

Sub-tasks are child tasks linked to a parent. Unlike checklist items, sub-tasks have their own number, assignee, due date and label. They appear indented under the parent in the task list and roll up to the parent's progress.

  1. 1Open the parent task.
  2. 2Click Add sub-task.
  3. 3Fill in the sub-task title, label and assignee.
  4. 4The sub-task gets its own task number and can be opened and edited independently.
NoteClosing all sub-tasks doesn't automatically close the parent. You'll still need to close the parent task yourself.
